Since the launch of Sheffield Beer Week in 2015 collaboration has been fundamental to the ethos. Whether it’s venues and breweries collaborating on an event or breweries collaborating with each other on a beer. The collaboration beers are one of our highlights of the week, as people come together to fuse ideas and this can produce really intriguing, flavoursome beers. They’re also another great reason to head out and about round the great beery businesses of Sheffield to try these beers.
A few of our favourites over the last five years have included Lost Industry x Fraser’s Coffee x Sheffield Beer Week ‘Cold Brew Black Heart’ which melded cold brew coffee into a rich milk stout; Little Critters x Hopjacker x White Lion x Hop Hideout x Sheffield Beer Week ‘Lemon Powered Spaceship’ a candied lemon and sherbet blonde ale; Thornbridge x Abbeydale Brewery x Sheffield Beer Week ‘Stepping Stones’ a juicy hopped-up session IPA; Neepsend x Norwich City of Ale x Sheffield Beer Week ‘Blossom’ honey milk stout; a mega collab between Lost Industry x Neepsend x The Devonshire Cat x Hop Hideout x Sheffield Beer Week ‘Emmeline’ a pomelo sour ale and Abbeydale x Ron Pattinson x Sheffield Beer Week ‘1868’ a take on the beer historian’s captivation – barley wine.
Through these collaboration beers you can celebrate and showcase. Whether it’s via the ingredients – using locally produced honey and roasted coffee, Norfolk brewing malt or UK grown hops to naming a beer Emmeline inspired by a key figure of the suffragette movement or even highlighting the history and heritage of brewing such as utilising historical brewing recipes as in the ‘1868’ brew with renowned beer historian Ron Pattinson. We look forward to all the collabeerations in 2019, let’s raise a cheer to that!
