How I See Myself and How Others See Me is an ethnographic multimedia project that explores identity, self and the multiplicity of womanhood. It unpicks the costumes women often have to wear in life and asks who we are, or want to be, when that costume comes off. These questions are explored through poetry and photography. Every poem features words spoken in conversation over coffee and cake by each participant. Each photo is collaborative, often placed and styled by the participants themselves.

The project is led by Wemmy Ogunyankin. A visual anthropologist, poet, photographer and filmmaker with a special interest in identity, womanhood, blackness, vulnerability and social justice. 💕Join us for the opening party on Saturday 5th of March from 5pm in the bar, meet the artist and check out the amazing work. 💕We’re also so excited to have multi-genre DJ Amina joining us for the opening in the bar from 8pm – 10pm! @aminaminaa

What: 11 LINE KERNEL TAP TAKEOVER FROM MIDDAY
KERNEL ON CASK!
KERNEL BEER TASTING & FOOD PAIRINGS WITH FOUNDER EVIN AT 7:30pm – £20 a ticket

When we were thinking about our Beer Week events, and our theme of old favourites and newer breweries to look out for, there was always one brewery at the top of the list for the brewery representing the vanguard of craft beer.

Since 2019, Pandemic closures aside, we have served more pints of delicious Kernel Pale ale, in countless hop combinations, than we can reasonably estimate. For longer than that, we’ve imbibed The Kernel’s impressive IPAs, supped their superb saisons and their sumptuous stouts. They are, perhaps, the most consistently excellent brewery in the UK over the last ten years.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, we asked them a question and they said ‘yes’. For our Beer week midweek centrepiece, we have our biggest ever tap takeover. Eleven Keg lines, across a wide range of style plus, whisper it softly, there will be some Kernel on CASK too.

On top of all this, Evin O’Riordain, founder and craft beer doyen will be joining us to lead a ticketed tasting from 7:30 onwards in our Function Room, including some rare vintages that have been tucked away at the brewery, matched with a couple of tasty small plates from our kitchen. This is £20 for 6 beers and paired food. Message us or email rutlandarms@hotmail.co.uk or ask at the bar about tickets.

Watch this space for confirmation of the cask and tasting lineup, but to whet your appetite here are the kegs we will have on:

1: Biere De Saison Small Damson Sour Cherry, 2: Imperial Brown Stout London 1856, 3: Grisette, 4: IPA Columbus Ella Citra, 5: IPA Nelson Galaxy, 6: Saison Blend, 7: Pale Ale Mosaic Wakatu, 8: Pils Nelson Sauvin, 9: Dunkel (I think we can squeeze this in too), 10: Foeder Beer Taiheke, 11: Vatted Porter

HOLY GOAT BEER TASTING: HOSTED BY JOHNNY HORN
19:30-22:00. 8 BEERS, £25 A TICKET

Sheffield Beer Week is back from 7th – 13th March this year. Over the years Beer Week has grown into a huge celebration of the craft beer scene and the values which make Sheffield such a great city for beer drinkers. Since we seem to have stuck to the lockdown rules somewhat more rigorously than a certain London address did, there was no Beer Week for us last year. We thought we best make an extra effort this year to make up for it!

Our first announcement is our Friday night headliner, the one and only Holy Goat.

These mixed ferm wizzards made their debut in May 2021, our friends over at Shakespeares were part of their launch. Since then, we have eagerly kept an eye out (when Covid circumstances allowed) for their latest releases and they were first on the list when it came to the ‘exciting new brewery’ part of our Beer Week events.

Founder and headbrewer Johnny and Operations Manager James will be coming down from Dundee to chat all things Holy Goat, and from 7.30 lead us through a tutored tasting of 8 Holy Goat Beers. Beer lists to be confirmed but look out in the Discussion bit for provisional lineups. Message us on here, pop in or email rutlandarms@hotmail.co.uk to get yourself a ticket. We only have space for 22 people though, so don’t hang about too long. Hail The Goat!

Included in the ticket price is a 440ml can of A Right To Roam, provided at Hop Hideout for take away.
The brewery is opening early just for us, so we will have a private and exclusive talk on arrival sharing more about the Right To Roam project and our collaboration beer. Beers are available to purchase at the brewery (card only), this isn’t included in the ticket price and is left up to participants to choose their own purchases.

If you would like to pre-order any of Nick Hayes’ books – these are available via our retail neighbour La Biblioteka. Please email for details and to order: la.biblioteka.project@gmail.com

(Please note filming will be going on by Salt Street Productions for The Outdoor City, a Sheffield marketing initiative. If you do not want to be filmed, please make Hop Hideout aware on arrival, which is of course absolutely fine, we just need to know).
