A little recap:
2018 is year four! We have grown and increased over the years with 2017 our biggest to date with a combined 38 venues hosting over 60 events. There were six Sheffield brewery specific beer collaborations and ‘Beer Week’ specials launched during the week. We continued to hold our ‘Twitter Hours’ raising the profile for Sheffield beer and showcase the great UK and global independent beer scene via social media. We had local and national press coverage. We even had our own Untappd badge! Sheffield Beer Week has also been involved in beery activities throughout the year including a trip to Norwich City of Ale
in May to host a Sheffield beer tasting. We estimate based on SIBA’s figures that roughly an additional +2,000 people visited Sheffield for beer during the week. We hugely believe that beer tourism is a developing area with positive impacts to the city and wider economy. I’m excited to announce Sheffield Beer Week is back from 12th March 2018. Hurrah!
We are looking to build on previous content and ideas AND develop new and unique content. It’d be boring if it was the same each year, don’t you think?
Ethos: Sheffield Beer Week is a week-long festival celebrating the region’s beery landscape. It’s also about highlighting the wonderful world of beer, taking and sharing inspiration from across the globe. Collaboration is key with Sheffield’s breweries, bars, pubs, beer shops and restaurants joining forces with local and international breweries to host beery events. We support independent beer businesses and breweries. (Breweries within the Sheffield City Region Funding net and independent beer focused businesses within the city centre and residential neighbourhoods around the city centre catchment area).
Sheffield Beer Week Strands (other than good beer of course!): Beer & Food, Community, Heritage.
There are additional strands for 2018 – which we are working closely on and will be announcing details soon! If you are a venue or brewery and would like to host an event – please do get in touch. Of course we understand there’s a busy few months coming up with the festive trade. We’re on hand to advise and please do drop us a line. We can also help to partner people together e.g. venues and breweries.
Look forward to hearing from you all,
Director Sheffield Beer Week
Note – SIBA Beer X festival and trade conference is not coming back to Sheffield, unfortunately. A trade event is being hosted in Liverpool (14/15th March) without a consumer beer festival. We anticipate that this will not impact negatively SBW due to it being trade only. We have also done some ground work with consumers and brewers and have received positive comments on them returning to Sheffield during our beer week from March 12th – due to hugely enjoying the previous three years.
