The White Lion recently celebrated two years of ownership by Jon and Mandy and they’ll be joining in with Sheffield Beer Week with a mini festival over the weekend, including live music and a  Meet The Brewer event with Edd Entwhistle of Hopjacker (Friday). The festival will include beers from across the length of the country but will also feature a four way collaborative brew from Little Critters, Hopjacker, Hop Hideout and The White Lion.

Five Points Tap Takeover

The Broadfield Ale House, Abbeydale Road, play hosts to the Five Points Brewing Company from Hackney, London. Tuck into Five Points brews from Friday, the 17th through Sunday, the 19th of March and enjoy the ambiance of one of Sheffield’s most glorious pubs. There will be all of the Five Points range in cask & keg available with some rarities such as London Smoke in keg & XPA in cask.  The brewery team will be on hand Friday and Saturday evenings for beery chats and there will be Five Points prizes to win in a ‘beat the brewer’ contest. The tap takeover also extends to the food menu too where there will be a selection of delicious Five Points Pies available! So come on down to The Broadfield for beery fun times.

Sheffield Brewdog will the showcasing Irish craft beer breweries Boundary, Yellow Belly Beer, Kennegar, White Hag and Wicklow Wolf from Friday March 17th in this second tap takeover of Sheffield Beer Week. Get yourself down to try some great independent Irish beer.

To Øl Showcase

Danish brewery To Øl are the focus for the Beer Engine for this complete tap takeover. Eight To Øl keg beers will be available alongside an extra special tapas menu pairing each of the draught beers. The beer range includes brews from the ‘The Usual Suspects’ range, new Totem Passion Fruit and Sur Sorachi-Ace.

Hops Quiz

Richard from Neepsend Brewery will be on hand with samples of different hop varieties, with a chance to match the hops to the beer you are drinking, and to talk all things hop. All over a pint or two, of course!

Beer Alive Beer Festival

Head up to IceSheffield to enjoy the Society of Independent Brewers Beer Alive festival of beer. Visitors will be able to enjoy SIBA’s 64 Gold ‘cask’ award winners and winning bottles and cans all under one roof. SIBA will also judge their national craft keg awards in Sheffield a few days before BeerX opens its doors, so there will be a huge array of craft beer offering all sorts of different flavours, strengths and styles for you to try over the weekend. There will be street food traders to try and great live music and Six Nations rugby coverage.

CAMRA’s Steel City Beer Festival Awards Presentations

Sheffield & District CAMRA branch will be demonstrating their new ‘Ale Trails’ website. The website will be an ongoing project to show a number of trails around Sheffield’s finest pubs. Regular additions of new trails throughout the year will be supported by a full printed leaflet in Autumn. Website visitors will also be able to register to receive updates which will enter them in a draw to win a free guided night out around Sheffield for 2 including meals.
